Our Board & Staff

Chico Center for Learning was founded in 2005 by Linda Bates and Marlene Brenden. In 2009, CCL incorporated and applied for non-profit status. In the beginning CCL offered a very successful Transitional Kindergarten Class for 4 years-old students preparing to enter Kindergarten. CCL ended the program when the public-school system initiated their own Transitional Kindergarten.
CCL’s current focus is tutoring with an emphasis on dyslexia and math. Linda Bates has been trained as an Advanced Level Barton Tutor using all levels of the Barton Reading and Spelling System.
CCL has always hired credentialed teachers and trains them to provide tutoring for children and adults with dyslexia and other special learning needs.
